P1 have had a visit from a Friendly Dragon!

On the first transition day for Primary 1 we were delighted to find some glittery footprints in our classroom leading to a letter! The letter was from the Friendly Dragon from Fairyland and he was very sad that his magical home was disappearing because children were no longer reading Fairy Tales. He asked if we could help to rebuild Fairyland so that his friends would all return. Straight away we got to work creating a beanstalk and castle for Jack. (More photos of this to follow!) Then when we were almost finished this job we found ANOTHER letter! This time the dragon left us some presents! He left a post box for us to write to him via D-Mail (Dragon mail), he left us some magic beans to plant our own beanstalks and he also left his friend Puff the Magic Dragon, to keep an eye on how we were getting on. We have had a great time planting our magic beans and can’t wait to start making Hansel and Gretal’s House!  Keep checking back for updates on how we are getting on!

What’s going on in P1?

Primary 1 have settled in to school life very well! They are working very well together, making new friends and learning lots of new skills every day. Please see the “Primary 1” section of the “Class Information” menu to find out about our plans for this term – it is going to be a very busy but enjoyable one! We hope to invite parents in to see our wonderful “Fairyland” which we have begun building and we also plan a visit to the woods. Please keep checking the website and diaries for further information!

Tom Renwick Numeracy Workshops

We were very fortunate to have Tom Renwick visit our school on Thursday 8th September! He worked with every class in the school on all aspects of numeracy, making use of his Numeracy Map, Wee Red Box and his Numeracy App. The children all had a wonderful time and learned lots of new strategies for working out mental maths problems.  In the evening he presented a workshop for parents which was very well received and everyone left feeling like they had learned something new.  We now look forward to using Tom’s resources and implementing the games and stategies in class.
