The children in the nursery were learning about Diwali today. They listened to the Diwali story which tells of the return of Rama and Sita to Rama’s kingdom after fourteen years. The towns people lit candles so that they could find their way back home.
We learned how Hindu’s celebrate this holiday (New Year) by:
- spring-cleaning the home
- wearing new clothes
- exchanging gifts (often sweets and dried fruits) and preparing festive meals
- decorating buildings with fancy lights.
- huge firework displays often celebrate Divali.
We then made our own candle cards.
