P6 Camping Trip

Primary 6 had a fantastic overnight camping experience at Dunsyre.  When they arrived they worked together to pitch their tents before enjoying a hot drink and a snack.  They then collected fire wood and staff cooked a lovely dinner of pasta, sausage, chicken and rolls.  After dinner they joined Lanark Cadets to do various exciting activities such as building shelters, tasting rations and camouflage activities.  They then walked back to our camp and we had a fire and toasted marshmallows and popcorn.  After a good night’s sleep they had a lovely breakfast al fresco  courtesy of Mrs Armstrong.  Thank you very much to Mrs Armstrong, Mr Scott and Lanark Cadets and all of the staff who helped to make this a successful trip.

P5/6 and P6/7 forest

P5/6 and P6/7 all enjoyed their last visit (of the school year) to the forest. They got themselves warmed up by doing a game of camouflage. They then were put into groups of 4 and had to make animals from natural materials. Some children choose to have a group member embedded in their design and others choose to make a 3-D animal – there was such a variety.

The children then had to make a game of their choice. Children had the opportunity to choose a game they already know or invent one of their own.

Day 4 – P4/5 Woods Visit with P2/3

We were really looking forward to today visit as we were taking P2/3 down to the woods with us. We got put into partners and we had to make sure the older one was on the outside nearest the road and we also talk to our partner the whole way to the woods. We spoke to them about the John Muir award and how important it is to us.

We also thought it was very important to talk to them about baby trees. We told them how they have to be careful that they don’t step on them or pull them out because they are nature and needs time to grow to be big trees.

We couldn’t wait to show our partners our special spots so as soon as we got in Miss Whitefield said we could go to our special spots.

“My partner thought it was really comfy and he really like it.” Eilidh

“My partner thought my special spot was very quiet.” Zoe

“My partner thought my special spot was cool because it was the perfect size for her.” Iona

“My partner thought it was very comfy and that it was perfect for two people as there was two seats.” Beth

We had a big double class discussion about what we felt about the woods and what we notices. The P2/3’s were very sad to see the burnt trees and logs. We spoke to them about how we were making posters to stick up and tell people to look after the woods.

Next it was finally time to find some bugs. We used some bug finding equipment and spoke to our partner about what makes a good bug habitat.

“Me and my partner worked together and spoke about where to look for bugs.” Zoe

“Me and my partner looked under logs and found lots of slugs.” Iona

“Me and my partner worked with another pair and we worked together as a team to see where we could find the most bugs.” Beth

“I really enjoyed the woods because it was really fun to find out where Rhy’s special spot was.” Katie

“The woods are fun and exciting.” Natasha

“The woods were very exciting because we got to find out something new about where some bugs live.” Ayva

“The woods were great and Bailey found me my own special spot. I found lots of spiders and a giant worm.” Ross

Dekko Comics Launch Evening

Earlier this year, Rossi Stone did a workshop with our pupils to help them to create comic strips to help with study skills.  We have purchased several of the first two editions of his Dekko Comics for the school and they are very popular with our children.  On Thursday 22nd June he is launching Issue 3 of his comics and you are invited to attend this free event.
