P4/5 STEM: KNex and Straw Challenge

The children continue to be creative and use their problem solving skills to design and create objects.  This week the Primary Four children were challenged to design and make an aeroplane and the Primary Five children had to design and make a pulley.  They agreed that each week they are also developing their collaborative/teamwork skills which can be challenging in larger groups but the children have been coping very well.

P4/5 Hunt for shapes outdoors

We have been learning about 3D and 2D shapes for example, being able to identify shapes (regular and irregular), name them and describe them.  We have played all sorts of games like: Who Am I?; Feely Bag; and some board games.  This week we went out into the playground to find an abundance of shapes we see every day e.g. the shed is a pentagonal prism and the sandpit is a hexagon.

Please have a look at the photographs the children took of what they found.

P2/3 Eastfield Farm trip

Yesterday, primary 2/3 had the opportunity to go and visit another farm. We went to Farmer Warnock’s farm in Coulter. We got the chance to explore his farm, see his farm animals and discuss what his life is like as a farmer.

P2 patterns

Primary 2 of the P2/3 class have been making patterns using different resources. We started off making our own basic patterns with pom-poms, Numicon and shapes. We then made it harder and made some number patterns using the Numicon. We worked in partners and in groups to work out which part of the pattern was repeated.
