P6/7 – PE Gymnastics Goals

Primary 6/7 children set themselves targets for gymnastics today.  Some of the children set their targets and have given themselves a few weeks to achieve and others have given themselves shorter term targets.  Each week they work around the different stations developing their skills.

“I’m going to try and do a cartwheel off the horse.” Kacey

“”I’m going to try a headstand.” Colin

“I’m going to try a hand flip off the horse.” Cara

” I’m going to practise my forward rolls and would like to do a cartwheel off the horse.” Jamie-Leigh

P1 Science – Making their own Musical Instruments

Primary 1 have been investigating sound in Science.  In their groups they all made different musical instruments using recycled objects and materials.  They then investigated the different sounds these instruments could make.  After that, the children created a piece of music with these instruments.  We also predicted and investigated who’s instruments were the loudest and quietest.

P6-7 Gymnastics Challenges

P6-7 are learning to further develop their skills in gymnastics.  Each week each child set themselves a challenge to achieve by the end of the lesson.  Some children request support for this from their peers or the teacher and some without support.

” I set myself a challenge to do a cartwheel today.  I didn’t do it but I’m going to keep trying.” Ethan

“I tried to do the cartwheel off the horse. I did achieve a round off so next week I’m going to try to flip/kick myself legs up higher.” Kacey

“I tried to do a handstand against the wall.  I achieved my challenge so next week I’m thinking about trying to keep my handstand balance for longer before coming down.” Ruaridh

“When I flipped on the big mat from the lower springboard I achieved it! Lexie

P6/7 Science – Predicting and Investigating Sound Waves

P6/7 today were predicting and investigating sound waves by setting up their own experiments to show sound.  They were given the materials and they decided how they could show the vibrations of sound. They also investigated sounds through a solid by using the walkie-talkies.  Please see their photographs and the comments about their learning.

“When the string was loose it was difficult to hear what my partner was saying.” Bethany

“Maybe when the string was tight it allowed the sound to travel through the solid easier than when it was loose.” Cara

“We did Chinese whispers and it worked when the string was tight but not when bent and we agree with Cara.” Eve

“When we pulled the cup away from our mouth it was harder for the other person to hear what I was saying.  I think this is because there was space between my mouth and the cup where the sound could escape.” Charlotte
