South Lanarkshire Council have launched an Early Learning on line resource for families to support their children’s learning and development.  This will be helpful to support Family/Home learning while the nursery is closed but will also be useful to you once they are open again too.

They plan to tailor its contents where applicable to meet the needs of our families.  Parents can email in, asking for hints and tips on particular areas of their children’s development and learning and the Equity & Excellence team would add the appropriate learning and support information to the site.  As well as learning we plan to include links and advice from Psychological Services, Health Visitors etc. to include topics such as mindfulness, mental health, attachment etc.

The link to access the site is: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/glowblogs/slccelcctest/

The BBC are offering daily lessons through BBC Bitesize. I have included the link below for their main website where you can access to the lessons and below that a copy of the timetable of lessons for this week. Lessons are available for P2-S4. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons

I hope this information is of some help to you.

Earlier in the year we had an author, Chris Duke, who came and spoke to the children about his book, ‘Lucy’s Blue Day’ which highlighted looking after our mental health. Our children really enjoyed having Chris speak to them and learned a lot from him. Chris has written a book designed to help children through the current coronavirus situation. It is called ‘Lucy’s in Lockdown’. It will also possibly help you to have some discussions with your child around what is currently happening. I am aware that one of the most important things we can do for our children just now is ensure they have good mental health. Chris has put a reading of his book on YouTube for all to use with their children:

There is a link below the YouTube video should you wish to download a free pdf of the book. You will be asked for your name and email address and then given the download.

What’s happening online this week? Week 3

I hope this finds everyone well and you have been enjoying this nice sunny weather.  Here is an updated list of exciting things you can do online this week.  Have a go and have fun. Take care.

Please see the post below from the Scottish Government website.

We have brought together an initial list of online educational resources to help children to learn at home.

These websites have been identified by some of the country’s leading educational experts and offer a wide range of support and resources for pupils of all ages.

The list includes subject-specific resources for:

They are currently being offered for free.

Individual resources cannot replace a school’s properly planned curriculum, and the resources in this list are not intended to do so.

They may be useful for parents in considering how they could support their children’s education, but they should not be used in place of existing resources which schools may be using as part of their continued provision for pupils’ education at this time.

Schools may also wish to explore this initial list of resources as they consider how they continue to support children’s education.

We will review and update the list over time. Details on how that will work will be provided in the coming weeks.

This list of resources is not exhaustive and there are many other resources available to schools.

Before using these resources, you should refer to the guidance ‘Coronavirus (COVID-19): safeguarding in schools, colleges and other providers’, which has further information on how to keep children safe online.
