Term 4 April – June 2017
This term we will be learning about –
Literacy and English – Analysing and evaluating texts through reading and talking and listening, higher order thinking skills, personal and non-fiction writing.
Numeracy and Mathematics – Time, Angles, Equations, Data Handling and Shape.
Health and Well Being – Substance Misuse, Sex Education. P.E – Athletics, Club Golf. .
Other Curricular Areas – Our Interdisciplinary Topic is World of Work. In Science we will be learning about plants. P7 will be learning about Energy and Space, and P6 will be learning about Electricity.
It’s an especially exciting time for P7 who will be preparing for going to the High School. Please note our Leavers Assembly will be at 10am on Tuesday 27th of June.

P6/7 Class Assembly 21st April
This term we will be learning about –
Literacy and English – Scots Language, Reading Skills using Literacy World, Non-Fiction Writing and Presentation Skills.
Numeracy and Mathematics – Multiples and Factors, Fractions, Percentages and Decimals, Time and Area/Perimeter.
Health and Well Being – Self Esteem/Growth Mindset, Resilience, Internet Safety. P.E – Basketball, Cross Country Training and Hockey.
Other Curricular Areas – Our Interdisciplinary Topic is the Jacobites. We will also be learning about Scottish Clans, Highland Life and Union of the Crowns. In Science we will be learning about water. P6 will be taking part in Bikeability training.
Term 2 – Update
Enterprise Topic
We have been very busy with our Enterprise topic. Our shop name is the ‘All Year Round Themed Shop’. Our logo and name was designed by Tatiana Duzy and chosen by the class. Well done Tatiana!
We applied for jobs and we now have the following staff:

We had a Dragon’s Den with Mrs Easton, Richard Struthers from BHC, and Miss Stewart. We accepted Richard’s offer of £70 FOR 10% share in our business. A very huge thank you to him for believing in us. We have decided to give all our profits to the following charities – WWF, Water Aid, Alzheimer Scotland and Marie Currie.
We have been busy buying stock and making crafts to sell. Thank you to Mrs Walker for teaching us how to sew and helping us to make felt tree decorations.
Our team got to visit the Finance Department at BHC to help them with their paper work and spread sheets. Thank you to the staff there for their time and help.
Once Upon Our Time
We had the opportunity to work with author Tony Bonning, who helped guide us through the writing process for our stories for the nursery children.
We have now finished writing our rhyme books for the nursery children and are looking forward to seeing the finished printed product!
Maths
We have enjoyed sessions with Tom Renwick, and are using his numeracy maps and flashcards in class to help develop our mental maths skills.
We have also been learning how to use Numicon to help with problem solving skills and symmetry. We will continue to use this resource with term for Fractions, Percentages and Decimals.
Science
We really enjoyed lots of practical experiments to explore materials and mixtures.
Drama
We have been learning lots of drama skills and hope to share this with you at our class assembly. Here is a sneak preview of some of the work we have been doing.
Term 2 – October – December 2016
We finished off our India topic by learning about the Diwali festival, and making 3D paper lanterns.
We also enjoyed a round robin afternoon of secret agent activities to finish off our Stormbreaker book study.
We are looking forward to a busy and exciting term in P6/7!
Our main interdisciplinary topic this term will be an Enterprise business which we hope to run for the rest of the year. This topic will mainly focus on Social Studies, Technologies and Maths outcomes. There will also be links to Literacy and Art.
The class have taken part in lots of discussion and decided it will be a themed shop, selling novelty gifts and stationery, as well as hand made crafts.
The children have decided on what job roles are needed, and are preparing their CVs, job applications and interview questions. They will be researching the best value of items to make and sell, and will be having a Dragon’s Den to ask for money to set up their business. Watch this space for more information soon!
Our other learning this term will be –
Literacy and English – We will focussing on non-fiction writing and reading through our Enterprise topic, the Big Writing resource and newspapers. We will also be continuing with literacy circle work with a novel.
Numeracy and Mathematics – We will be working on the four operations using mental calculations, written work and word problems with whole numbers and decimals. We will also be working on finance education.
Health and Wellbeing – For P.E, we will be focussing on fitness and netball. Other areas will include protective behaviours, anti-bullying and internet safety. As part of our health week on the 14th of November, we will be looking at mental health and relaxation. We will be taking part in some guided mediations, relaxation and also some yoga.
Term 1 – August – October 2016
This term we will be learning about –
Literacy and English – We shall be studying the novel ‘Stormbreaker’ and completing a variety of reading, writing and grammar activities related to this novel.
Numeracy and Mathematics – We shall be learning about Probability and Place Value.
Health and Well being – We shall be learning to manage our feelings and emotions, using the Cool in School Resource and will be taking part in Rugby and also learning Ball Skills in P.E.
Other Curricular Areas – Our Interdisciplinary Topic is about ‘India’ and we shall be learning about the Indian culture, traditions, geography of the country as well as learning about the religions practiced in India. There will be lots of opportunities for work within Expressive Arts in this topic.
