P5/6 and P6/7 Kitchen Safety!

Primary 5/6 and Primary 6/7 were delighted to have Miss Carmichael from the kitchen to talk to us about Kitchen Safety as we have been learning about this in Health and Wellbeing. She told us about loads of important and interesting facts that we have listened to and taken into consideration for when we are cooking. Here are some things we have learned:

  • It is important to wash our hands with hot, soapy water and make sure we get in between our fingers too – Abbi
  • Maths is also important for cooking because you need to weigh and measure ingredients – Ryan
  • Miss Carmichael said that the fridge needs to be between 1 and 5 degrees and the freezer needs to be -18 degrees – Mathew
  • It is a good idea if you’re cooking to have your hair tied up or in a hair net so no hair gets into the food – Paige
  • The meats all need to stay in a different fridge from everything else or on the bottom shelf of a joined fridge – Finlay
  • She uses different chopping boards for different foods – she has about 12! – Julia
  • If you’re reheating food it needs to be over 82 degrees – Katie
  • Never put warm things in the fridge or the temperature of the whole fridge will rise – James

Dynamic Earth Trip

Yesterday, Primary 5/6 went to Dynamic Earth to consolidate their learning on Natural Disasters.

We learned loads of interesting facts about Volcanoes and even found out about a Super Volcano! We got to time travel back in time to before the world was created and took a lovely (quite scary) flight to the rainforest too!

Primary 5/6 Multiplication!

Primary 5/6 were exploring different ways to multiply big numbers today. We used the place value counters to set out our sums and then drew it out on our whiteboards!

We also used the place value to help us see how to group the multiplication sums.
