The children learned how to make a very unique bookmark. They then wrote a set of instructions to help others make them. Some children provided a diagram.

Primary Five children have been working hard together in different pairs to create a variety of designs using the Knex over the last few weeks. The challenge was then to design and make a bridge which would allow large vessels to pass underneath it and so they had to think about how their bridge would allow for this. There was success criteria to achieve and I must say all the children worked extremely hard and did fantastically well. They had to demonstrate and justify their bridge designs and extra marks were given for using pulleys and teamwork. Here are the final results. Congratulation to Kloe and Cara who went onto the regional competition where they had to design and make a Ferris Wheel. Well done to all the children for their effort and hard work!
The children have been learning to understand the concepts of multiplication and division and the connection between both. They have been learning different mental strategies for example, grouping, sharing, partitioning, repeated subtraction and addition, etc.
The children also enjoyed creating their own storyboards showing the visual, written and word problem for different multiplication and division stories.
The children were all given a challenge to recreate Steven Brown’s ‘Forest of Argyle’ art on an object of their choice. Some children chose to create their design on cushions, mobile phone covers, laptops, t-shirts, cups and bags.
They learned how to create shadows on the tree trunks and we discussed warm and cold colours used by Steven Brown.

P7 started their Food Technology today. They learned about the different kinds of bread and used ICT to research where they are from. They were then given a STEM challenge and had to work in groups to make boats using tin foil only. The boats were put in water and children had to add pennies to see how many they could hold. They evaluated their design and made a second boat with any changes they wanted to make. One boat was so good it held all the pennies, extra money from Miss Stewart’s purse, a lunch tub and tubs from the class!
