P1 visit to Tesco

On Thursday Primary 1 visited Tesco in Lanark to learn all about food and where it comes from, as part of their topic about ‘Harvest’. They started the visit by having a ‘food treasure hunt’ where they had to find fruit and vegetables and identify where they came from by looking for the flag on it’s packaging. Next they had a tour of the big store and the freezer, which was very chilly!  They then got to taste lots of different foods including bread, breadsticks, jams and pickles.  Thank you very much to Lanark Tesco for such an interesting and enjoyable visit!

Outdoor Learning in German!

On Monday, children in Primary 1, 2/3 and 3/4 took part in an outdoor learning activity led by our visitor Andrea from the Goethe Institut. She taught the children a little about Germany and the children learned to identify it on a map of Europe. They also learned the names for many animals, while on a ‘treasure hunt’ for animals and animal cards which were scattered all over the football field. We found out that there are lots of animal names in English which sound similar in German!  We learned to count in German and also collected natural materials and stick them onto a special card to take home. Everyone had a great time and we would like to thank Andrea for all of her hard work, with the younger classes this week and with the older pupils a few weeks ago.

Learning to take turns

When we play games it’s very important that we learn to take turns.  In the nursery we like to play lots of different games.  Today we chose the rhyming game and we were doing very well learning to take turns.  In together time we were also learning to take turns talking so that everyone wasn’t talking at the same time.

Developing our ball skills

The children in the nursery are developing their ball skills this week.  We are rolling the ball to our partner.  Learning to throw the ball underarm to our partner and catch the ball.  Then to challenge us we will be passing and catching the ball while moving.
