Well what a busy week we had last week. A very special visit from Santa, cupcake decorating and a yummy Christmas lunch were just some of the things we were doing. In the yellow group we have also been talking about the nativity story. We have been using a story map to help us remember the story. We have had lots of fun learning the actions. If anyone would like to do this at home I have attached the story below called We’re Going on a Journey.

Nursery Yellow Group – The Moon, Stars and Planets
This week some of the children had been talking about the full moon at the weekend. This got us interested in the sky at night. We did a mind map of all the things we know like a crescent moon. It was great to hear lots of fabulous words. We have been reading some books about Space and discovered some names of the planets. We also made starry pictures, designed our own planets, built space rockets and found letters hidden in space rocks.
Nursery Yellow Group – Potions and Broomsticks
This week we have had lots of fun exploring all things Hallowe’en. We took lots of pots and pans up to the mud kitchen and made some fabulous potions by mixing in leaves and bark. I’m just glad none of their spells worked or I would’ve been a frog for a long time! Next some of the children decided to recreate the story ‘Room on the Broom’ that we had been reading by using canes from the garden as broomsticks. What great imaginations. Look at how they were investigating with light and dark using our Hallowe’en torches too.
Nursery Yellow Group – Fun with Leaves
Not even the rain and wind can stop us from having fun outside. This week we have had some fun with leaves. We were throwing leaves up in the wind and watching them blow away. That made us think about having kites so we tied scarves on to poles and watched them sway in the wind. We also got creative and made some animals with the leaves. Can you spot the hedgehog, bat and a long dragon?
Nursery Yellow Group – Exploring Our Senses
This week and last week the yellow group have been exploring our senses. We were exploring our sense of hearing by going on a listening walk. We really had to focus, so we lay down and closed our eyes to really concentrate. We heard the birds tweeting and singing their songs. We also enjoyed listening to the rain fall off the tree on to the tarpaulin.
