P4/5 have been learning about Victorian toys. They looked at similarities and differences between children’s toys nowadays and toys they played with in Victorian times. They then went outside and created their own hopscotch boards.

This week the children have been exploring different ingredient’s in the mud kitchen. They have been making super hero soup to help make them big and strong and others made salads. The children used macaroni pasta shells, potatoes and celery.
The children used their senses to explore different herb plants such as rosemary, basil, thyme, parsley that Mrs Cairns had also added to the mud kitchen.
Please see Primary 1’s class page for information on what the children will be learning about and working on this term. Thanks for your support.
Over the past couple of weeks we have been working really hard in writing. The class have been completing a Talk for Writing block on ‘Beating the Monster’ stories. We started with a cold task where the class wrote their own story with limited help to help us create class targets, e.g. using ambitious vocabulary, starting our sentences with interesting openers, creating a clear storyline etc. We have then been using the model text ‘Beowulf’ to help us. We have learned the text off by heart using actions and story maps and have analysed the author’s craft. We are now at the stage of innovating the story and using ideas from it to create our own. After that the children will complete a ‘hot task’ assessment which will show their progress.
Boxing up the story pattern and ‘Magpieing’ vocabulary:
Acting out Beowulf in drama to help embed the story:
On Friday afternoon each child in the school gathered in their house team and listened eagerly as the Primary 7 pupils wishing to be elected for the role of House Captain each delivered a speech. Every pupil then had the chance to vote for the candidate who they wanted to win. We are delighted with the efforts of every single candidate who put themselves forward for these roles, they were a credit to themselves and their school. Congratulations to the children pictured below who received the most votes from their house team members. You will be fantastic House Captains and we look forward to your support throughout the school year.
