On Wednesday 11th January we were very lucky to have an inspirational talk and workshop from the founder of Dekko Comics, Rossie Stone. Rossie shared his inspiring story of his struggles at school due to his dyslexia and the way that he overcame his struggles and achieved great success in his exams and also so far in his life through creating comic strips. Rossie discovered that creating comics and characters was a great way to help him to study for his exams and helped him to achieve A grades in several subjects, enabling him to go on to further education which led to him creating his company, Dekko Comics.
After listening to his presentation, the children took part in a workshop session where they created a comic strip, poster or character to help them to learn either the 8 times table or a fact(s) of their choice. The children were extremely creative and produced excellent pieces of work and more importantly, learned another method to help them to make learning fun and memorable!
We have purchased several copies of the first two editions of Dekko Comics for our library and the children are enjoying the comics as well as learning about Modern Languages, Maths, History, Literacy and many more subjects through reading them!
