Our Cupcake Masterclass

This morning we welcomed Mrs Japp from Jappacakes.  She very kindly came along to the nursery as part of our current topic, Developing the Young Workforce.  Each child had the opportunity to add ingredients, mix and decorate their very own cupcake.  The children thoroughly enjoyed their experience and were very happy to take their cupcake home.  We would like to thank Mrs Japp very much for bringing all the ingredients and taking the time out of her busy schedule.  We all had a fantastic time!

Ultimate Challenge

On Friday 3rd March P6 pupils attended the “Ultimate Challenge” at Biggar Municipal Hall along with other P6 children from the Biggar Learning Community. On arrival children were split into teams whom they would be working with. Children were given a scenario about a girl called Emily (an ex Biggar Primary and Biggar High School pupil who plays netball for Scottish Thistles) who had lost her netball medals. Children looked at a newspaper article which was based on the disappearance of Emily’s medals and used their Literacy skills to summarise the key points and find unknown words. In their teams they then had to use their mathematical skills to unlock boxes which contained the medals. This required problem solving, perseverance, team work, determination, concentration, good listening and lots of communication. In the afternoon children self evaluated which involved looking at Curriculum for Excellence and identifying all the skills they had used. They stated what they felt they had done well and what they felt they could improve on. The day was ended with the children getting to meet Emily who gave a very inspirational talk, telling the children that they should work hard to follow their dreams and never give up! A great day was had by all.
